Moods Season Six Recap
Quadrupling our audience is just the start as we continue to tell stories beyond techno.
Season Six closed this year at Moods with 11 mixes—or 13 hours and 53 minutes of music—alongside our annual barbecue and two new merchandise lines. As we witness our community grow and unfold in ways unimagined, we’re grateful for you reading, listening, and supporting along the way. Without you, none of this would exist. Thank you, deeply, always, for tuning in.
We crunched the numbers (they taste great), so chow down on what we accomplished this year:
Season Six had 8,124 listens, our largest to-date. It means we’ve quadrupled our audience in just the past two years. You’re welcome to boost those numbers by taking a listen to the entire season here.
We accumulated 682 likes on Soundcloud across all 65 mixes—which came from 62 countries across six continents (who has a connect in Antarctica??). We’re more global that we thought, and that’s an excellent thing.
This year, our stories continued to center Detroit-based artists, musicians, deejays, and clubgoers, but we also heard dispatches from Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York.
In all, our 11 mixes pulled from queer, trans, Black, American, Jordanian, Filipino, Canadian, and Japanese legacies. Our mixers told stories from the Rust Belt, the Internet, the corporate 9-to-5, the graveyard, the playground, the all-nighter, the early 2010s, and the generations before us.
$7,095.32 USD was moved directly to artists, organizations, and cultural workers in need to pay for their time, effort, and work this year—an increase in over $2,500 from Season Five.
Sometimes, our mix contributors redirect their $50 commission to causes of their choice, which this year included the Adalah Justice Project, The Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, The Transgender Law Center, and PCRF.
We dare you to match our $50 contributions to any or all of these causes as the year closes. We dare you!!
You can still grab some of the last remaining sweatshirts or tote bags before they’re gone next year at the barbecue (it happened before, it can happen again). You can also support us monthly on Substack or through $1/month, $4/month, and $20/month subscriptions through Paypal. Take a peek too at our Instagram story of Season Six—it’s cute, promise.
We’re excited for the start of Season Seven in 2024 with more mixes, food, merch, and stories, and can’t wait for you to see what’s in store.
xoxo,
Daniel, Crystal, and Miguel
